BOSS DR-220 Eurorack Modules

How can you not love late 80’s drum machines?  No CV control, you say!  Well, here we had to add CV control over some of the choice bends and latching switches to allow complete manual control.  Trig inputs for all of the percussion too!  A TTLFO which can be used as master clock, or used to turn on and off the 8 CV controlled bends, that have been meticulously gone through to find some of the best ones!  One of my best conversions to date. 😀

    • These two are the first prototypes. I hope to do extensive testing throughout the year on them. There might be some additional revisions and some of the bends need to be ironed out, mostly to make sure they don’t cause pre-mature failure of the original electronics. Stay tuned for more info soon!

      • Hey mate,
Are you going to these mods available? I am interested…
        Can pay via paypal.

  1. I really hope this will come available to interested parties either serviced or as a kit like the minitaur.
    Keep them coming!!
    thanks for sharing

  2. This is seriously cool! I’m looking at doing some mods to one, found this. Hats off, what a build! It looks so professional, for a prototype! Did you CNC the panel?

    • Thank you for the kind words. Yes I CNC all of my panels. Here is a snapshot of my panel process.
      1. Generate Art.
      2. Build G code for CNC.
      3. Cut out panel.
      4. Burn screen.
      5. Powdercoat panel.
      6. Print panel
      7. Bake to cure ink.
      8. Enjoy!
      Process

      • Wow thanks. Powder coating is the way forward, a great finish. Amazing that it is the only coating process with zero waste, they can just reuse what did not attach to the metal (I read this anyway!)
I’d be interested to hear if these do become available next year.
Many of my builds are here http://www.artworkfromewaste.eu mostly I reuse cases and parts, always looking for a better finish. Maybe I should get some powder coating done next!

  3. Hi there, just wondering if these will become available? Lovely builds! Thanks

    • Hi Robin,
Thank you for the comment, no these are one offs. These original drum machines can be very touchy. I toasted one of them just to make these two. I could not ruin a bunch of these, in good conscious, just to try and sell them. You can still find the originals on ebay, though. So if you want to have a go at a fun project, I encourage people to try 😀

      • thanks for your reply. I do have a 220A, it is fun to use, and a great sound. I’d attempt a version of this if the materials were available, I’m not set up to make such a great panel for it.
